In the summer of 2015, I watched my family’s future crumble—one dry, dusty day at a time.

We’d already been through four brutal years of drought in California’s Imperial Valley. As a third-generation farmer, I’d weathered rough seasons before. But this was different. The heat was relentless. The water was gone. And no one was coming to save us.

I thought I was prepared. We had solar panels, a backup well, even a 600-gallon emergency water tank. But when the well finally ran dry and our backup reserve was stolen in a desperate family betrayal—I knew everything had changed.

I needed a solution. Fast. And what I discovered next would completely alter the course of our lives.


The Night Everything Fell Apart

I still remember it like it was yesterday.

A loud crash outside. My mother screaming. My father bleeding. My own uncle swinging a shovel—willing to hurt his own brother over a few barrels of water.

“Sorry Rich,” he said, “I just need your water for my farm or they’ll take my house.”
